{"id":3747,"date":"2022-08-10T11:12:23","date_gmt":"2022-08-10T03:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kehidupan-anda.com\/dutch-class\/"},"modified":"2025-05-21T09:31:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T01:31:14","slug":"dutch-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kehidupan-anda.com\/en\/dutch-class\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch class!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Indonesian government has introduced its new curriculum for Senior High School called &#8220;Merdeka&#8221; (Independence), allowing schools more flexibility in what to teach.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, I was asked to teach Dutch in both 3rd grade classes (Hotel and Diving\/Tour).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That was fun. When you start learning something you&#8217;ve known since you were a child, you realize what a complicated language Dutch really is. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try this: take the verb &#8220;to walk.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So that is: &#8216;I walk&#8217;, I walked (past tense), I have walked (completed).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now you would expect it to be the same for the word &#8220;hope.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But no, it is &#8220;I hope,&#8221; &#8220;I hoped,&#8221; and &#8220;I hoped.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But surely &#8220;buying&#8221; should be the same thing?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forget it! &#8216;I bought&#8217;, &#8216;I bought&#8217; and &#8216;I bought&#8217;. Try explaining that&#8230;.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or the use of the words &#8220;the,&#8221; &#8220;it&#8221; and &#8220;an&#8221;; a completely unknown piece of grammar in the Indonesian language. But it was a lot of fun; especially the pronunciation. We ended this 3-month class with some Dutch songs.
