In memoriam...

On Friday morning, June 10, we received the sad news that Herman Sastrowijaya (also known as Hermanto) passed away suddenly at the age of 39.

Many of us know Hermanto from a visit to Thalassa as Guest Relations Officer, or visiting the school. In the many years we have worked with Hermanto, he has always worked diligently for the students, both inside and outside the school. Hermanto was able to bring out the best in the students. We were all able to experience this together through the numerous song and dance performances when visiting Thalassa Manado.

He took care of the rehearsal of song and dance as well as the costumes and make-up, including the very famous and widely acclaimed act of the Trash Zombies.

In addition, Hermanto saw to it that children and students were admitted to the project, but was also very involved in the ups and downs of the students. Following a report from the teachers or other agencies, he visited the family at home to assess the situation.

Herman addresses a student sternly.

He made a full report of this with photos. In this way it was possible to keep a grip on the need for support from the foundation and its donors. He also saw to it that the board received a financial periodic report of the money flows.

On Monday, June 13, Hermanto was buried amid great interest. It has hurt many of us not to have been there. We will forever remember his smile and warmth.

"Condolences and heartfelt love. From: the extended family and educational foundation SMK Solagratia Tongkaina."

Rest in peace good friend, you went way too soon.
